Loy Krathong Festival 2010

Loy Krathong is one of the most important festivals on the Thai calendar held at the end of the rainy season.  During the festival people make floating flower baskets (the "Krathong") and set them afloat on the canals and rivers.  The act of setting free the Krathong is meant to cleanse your spirit.  At the kids school it is a really big deal.  All the children dress up in traditional Thai costume, make their own Krathong and place them in the pond on school grounds.  Back at the Moobaan (our housing compound) all the Thais get into the spirit.  There are stalls set up selling Krathong.   Loads of bunting is put up and the main streets are lit up with candles.  The kids school blogs have photos of them and the day in general.  Go to Anika's and Xavier's November class blogs and look down to Loy Krathong.  A lot of the photos were thanks to Beata.  Here are the kids' photos from the festival at school ...
